In the last month I have been following the Facebook and also meeting up with people and to find that the candidates who are from Political parties appear to indicate that Independent Candidates should be voted in for Council. This makes me wonder and question DOES BLACKTOWN COUNCIL want to be run by a particular party only.
I strongly believe that if that is a mixture of candidates in Council it would help to ensure that the Council would be Transparent, Open and Honest. I also believe that all Councillors voted in will be entitled and allowed to participate and be involved in the community instead of one particular person.
Maybe by having a mixture of candidates there might be changes which I would like to see happening at Blacktown Council. Some of which are as follows:
- The position of Mayor can only be held for no more than 2 TWO years. This would assist in different ideas and changes happening in the community.
- Councillors who are over 70 years should not be standing as Councillors of the area and allow for the younger generation to be involved. I have noticed that some of the Councillors have been sick and unwell.
- If a person is elected into Council he/she should be committed to the role, and participate to his/her best ability. I have noticed that very few Councillors do attend functions or participate in activities except the Mayor. Where are the people that we voted for, sitting at home and enjoying the perks that Councillors are entitled too.
So to the Community I say bring in Independents to keep the Councillors on their toes and they will do the right for the people of Blacktown.
